Curved Staircase- If your staircase is actually curved, you will most likely have to purchase a custom stair lift. Curved stair lifts end up costing a lot more than a stair lift designed for a straight staircase. This is because a curved stair lift must be custom fit to the curve of your staircase. A custom stair lift usually takes about 3-4 weeks for us to order and install.
Straight staircases with landings and 90 degree turns- Customers likely have two choices. They can choose a custom curved stair lift that will go up, around the turn, and all the way to the top without getting up halfway. This is the best solution, but the more costly. On some staircases it is possible to install two straight stair lifts, instead of going with a curved stair lift. This is called a double installation and will only work if the stair case is shaped like an ‘L’ and has a 90-degree bend. It also needs to have a landing in the middle. When going with a double installation, you will install a straight stair lift onto each leg of the ‘L.’ Many times this alternative works, and it is much less expensive than a curved stair lift. The double installation allows for you to have a stair solution set up very quickly as opposed to 3-4 weeks for a custom curved lift. The only down side is the customer must be able to transfer from one stair lift to another.
